White oak flooring requests usually arrive without a follow-up question. One is worth asking, because on our own floor the term covers two different products at three different prices. Three of our five hardwood collections are white oak — one American, two European — and the differences between them are measurable rather than a matter of taste.
White oak flooring and European white oak are not the same listing
Sawgrass is White Oak. Royale I and Royale II are European White Oak. The remaining two collections, Sea Harbor and Reserve, are European Oak without the white — a different listing again, and the least expensive of the range at $5.19 and $5.99 per square foot.

The three white oak collections and what they cost
- Sawgrass — White Oak, 7.5″ wide, 5/8″ thick, 23.5 sq ft per box, $7.49/sq ft, ten colors.
- Royale I — European White Oak, 7.5″ wide, published at 7.5mm, 23.44 sq ft per box, $8.39/sq ft, five colors.
- Royale II — European White Oak, 9.5″ wide, published at 9.5mm, 23.44 sq ft per box, $9.39/sq ft, five colors.
Box coverage is close enough across all three that it rarely changes a decision — 23.44 to 23.5 square feet. Where they genuinely separate is width, thickness, and how many colors each one gives you to work with.
Width and thickness, converted so you can actually compare them
The site lists Sawgrass in inches and both Royales in millimeters, which makes the numbers harder to line up than they need to be. Converted: 5/8″ is about 15.9mm, against 7.5mm for Royale I and 9.5mm for Royale II.
That ordering surprises people, because the cheapest of the three white oaks is also the thickest as published. If board thickness is what you are optimizing for, Sawgrass at $7.49 is worth a hard look before the price ladder pulls you upward.
Width runs the other way. Sawgrass and Royale I are both 7.5″ wide; Royale II is 9.5″, the widest board in the whole hardwood range. Wider boards mean fewer seams across a room, which reads as calmer underfoot and is most of what people are responding to when they say a floor looks expensive.
Twenty white oak colors, in two different accents
Sawgrass gives you ten: Westwood, Santa Monica, Oxnard, Monterey, Melrose, Malibu, Malaga, Ivy Point, Hermosa, and Hawthorne. Read them in a row and the naming is unmistakably Southern Californian.
The Royales give you five each and go the other direction entirely. Royale I runs Leeds, Malahide, Dover, Buckingham, and Bodiam; Royale II runs Windsor, Westminster, Peles, Monte, and Chambord. Palaces and castles rather than beach towns.
Twenty colors in total, and the split matters. A ten-color collection lets you find the exact undertone that agrees with your cabinetry and trim. A five-color collection asks you to pick from a curated set — usually fine, occasionally the reason a floor never quite settles into a room.
One caveat before the samples come out. Hardwood is a dry-room material: its stated advantage is that it can be refinished by sanding and finishing, which solves wear rather than water.
